Synopsis
Laid Down is a short film shot from the point of view of a newborn baby which vividly evokes the chaos and sensory overload of the infant’s experience. Set over the first few months of life, dipping in and out of animated dream sequences, we encounter the turbulent relationship between the baby's parents from the raw, emotional and preverbal perspective of the baby.
Since its debut at the European Psychoanalytic Film Festival in 2007, Laid Down has provoked strong reactions and thoughtful discussions about the experience of early childhood.
“Powerful and original. Very important!”
- Peter Lomas, psychotherapist and author.
“Em is a talented young film maker who shows real originality”
- Lorraine Heggessey, former controller of BBC 1.
